Let’s play with a photo exercise that involves consciously using a type of light in the images we create.

Think about the different ways that you can use lighting to enhance or alter your scene or create a mood. This exercise doesn’t limit you to daytime photography; you can play with light after dark, too.

Photos can be from indoors or outdoors, in natural or artificial light. Some ideas include directional lighting (down lighting, back lighting, side lighting, up lighting), using a spot of light to illuminate a feature of interest, or taking advantage of an atmospheric tone over the entire scene (golden hour or blue hour photography). There are numerous creative possibilities for your images.
